Microgaming Software Systems Limited is the industry leading developer of award-winning casino software for the online gaming industry. Based in the Isle of Man, with a global presence, Microgaming is the world’s leading supplier of online gaming software, with over 850 unique casino games and 350 plus mobile games to their name. New titles are added to the portfolio every month, sitting alongside classic games such as Jurassic Park, Dragonz, Bridesmaids, Terminator 2 and Thunderstruck II.
Microgaming has experienced significant growth over the last four years. Over that period Synapse360 has helped transform Microgaming’s IT from a traditional, siloed architecture to a high performing, fully virtualised, converged platform that is enabling the company to work faster and smarter and derive more value from IT.
“Synapse360 has supported us every step of the way through the transformation.” Said Leon Turner, Head of IT at the company, “Even though staff numbers have increased, IT has been able to push forward on business initiatives: Synapse360 has undertaken the heavy lifting, ensuring our infrastructure is fit for purpose.”
Steve Douglas, Technology Director at Synapse360 said, “When we engaged with Microgaming, we recognised early on that that the company would really benefit from the latest converged technology platforms. To that end we architected, deployed and migrated Microgaming to a high performance platform with highly integrated servers, storage and networking from best of breed suppliers.”
The infrastructure chosen was enterprise grade, including all-flash storage, best in class servers and a 100GbE network core. According to Leon, “In terms of performance it was like moving from the Jurassic age of technology to the bleeding edge. All of our enterprise applications run faster, with minimal disruption. The environment is much easier to manage and occupies significantly less floor space. All of these improvements have directly contributed to increased productivity and a more engaged IT team able to focus on higher value projects rather than low level IT issues.”
The new platform is highly flexible and is currently being expanded to pilot a virtual desktop environment that Microgaming is undertaking with Synapse360.
To ensure that all users fully benefit from the server room improvements, Synapse360 has also helped improve the performance and resilience of the company’s network. “Synapse360 replaced our legacy networks with a next generation solution that can exploit the performance of the new converged platform. This has reduced operational and management overheads, whilst underpinning our requirement for an agile, always-on infrastructure capable of supporting growth.” Said Leon.
The server, storage and network improvements have also been complimented by application delivery load-balancing technology which ensures that both internal and external users benefit from improved resilience.
“Synapse360 has taken the time to understand our company and our culture, we see the Synapse360 team as an extension of our IT department” said Leon, “They handle the procurement and provide a full range of monitoring and support services. This enables us to run a lean, highly efficient IT function whilst having the support available to service the business as it grows!”
