The fifth annual Cyber Isle conference took place on October 4, 2023, at the Comis Hotel on the Isle of Man. As the premier cybersecurity event of the island, the event delivered an invaluable platform for industry experts and local businesses to come together, exchange ideas, and fortify their cyber defences. The 5th consecutive Cyber Isle promised to be even more enlightening, with an impressive line up of panel discussions, workshops, and presentations.
Representing Synapse360 at this years’ event was Colin Kissack, Head of Customer Engagement and Grace Carr from our marketing team along with some of our colleagues from the Manx Telecom corporate team!
This years’ event had four main themes:
Cyber Threat Trends
This topic delved into the latest cyber threats facing businesses and individuals. A representative from the National Cyber Security Centre, shared strategies on how businesses could stay ahead of the curve and protect against these emerging threats. With cyberattacks becoming increasingly sophisticated, understanding current trends is crucial for safeguarding sensitive data.
Keeping Data Safe
In an interconnected world, protecting personal and sensitive information is paramount. Cyber Isle 2023 featured discussions on robust strategies and technologies to keep data secure, ensuring that it remains out of the hands of cybercriminals.
Cybercrime and Fraud
Cybercriminals continually adapt their tactics, making fraud detection and prevention an ongoing challenge. Dr Francis Gaffney, Senior Director of Mimecast Labs and Future Engineering gave attendees an insight into the psychology of cyber detection and how it is applied in the cyber domain and the methods which are employed to counter such deception.
Incident Response
No business is immune to cyberattacks. Hence, it is crucial to be prepared. Experts at this years’ events gave insights into how organisations can equip themselves to respond effectively to a cyber-attack, minimise damage, and expedite recovery looking into AI and the threats, but also opportunities it provides businesses. They also explored ways in which third-party experts can support businesses and protect their digital assets.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, the importance of safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining cybersecurity vigilance cannot be overstated. Cyber Isle 2023 also served as a platform for the Isle of Man government to deliver their Cyber Security strategy ‘Island Shield’ which showed ways that the islands Cyber Security Centre are doing to help individuals, businesses, and community groups ‘shield’ themselves from cyber-attacks and build resilience.
Over the years, Cyber Isle has evolved into a critical platform for networking, learning, and sharing experiences. It is where industry leaders meet to not only discuss the latest threats but also to collaborate on innovative solutions. It was great to catch up with professionals across the industry at this years’ event and share learning on this important topic. We can’t wait to catch up with attendees at next year’s event!
